Default 2013 xl883n (Clutch Lever Feels Soft, Shift Lever Difficult To Shift)

Bike: 2013 Iron 883.

During my ride (on the freeway) to work this morning, I noticed the clutch lever felt really soft when I engaged/disengaged. A short time later, I exited the freeway as normal. I downshifted to first, but the engine stayed revved, as though I were holding the throttle open a bit. Then the gear shift lever became very difficult to kick up or down. When I got to work, I checked the clutch lever. It looks okay and normal. After I turned my bike off, the gear shift lever became easy to shift again. I took my bike out for a spin around the block during my break, and the same symptoms occurred: engine seems to remain revved, gear shift lever becomes difficult to shift, clutch feels soft. I'm not mechanically inclined, and I was hoping you all might help me to at least begin to understand what's going on. Any ideas? Thanks.

Have you ever adjusted the clutch or had it adjusted?

How many miles on the bike?

It does sound like the spring plate exploded.
