I am excited about the models

I think HD is finally going in the right direction

BUT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lets not call them sportsters, the Sportster has been an iconic bike 61 years with the same basic engine platform. Let that stand for what it does.

Call the new bikes something else.

with all due respect... and from a European vision of the fact... for me is not so important...

anyway the baggers maintained their touring name passing from the old to the new M8 engine... so did Softails... that's pretty much a thing like that...

The new bikes are not Sportster replacements. They're in addition to the Sportster line.

quote: The silence was deafening in all of this as the word “Sportster” wasn’t part of the discussion. The likelihood that these new liquid-cooled middleweight twins are replacements for the Sportster line is low, so expect news in Harley-Davidson’s more traditional custom space. There is also the “adventure Sportster” shown in the video that suggests continued life for the air-cooled platform. “I wouldn’t jump to a conclusion that this product is necessarily a replacement for Sportster,” Kumbier said.

Lpoking at them, especially the "Streetfighter", shows a passing resemblance to the Buell with a touch of V-rod thrown in. Do you think the current sales staff can do them justice? Failed miserably with Eric's products!

sure he says so... right now...
i'm curious to know what he'll say in 2020 though... you really think that after all the money poured in the new projects, Mo.Co. has intention to pour another on the Sportster platform to permit them to fulfill the new EU 5 specs?

Maybe we simply hope so...

Why would they be called Sportsters to begin with?

The "Sportster LiveWire" makes no sense. I know, we weren't talking LiveWire, but the point is, they gave the thing a name. Why would they hide that behind another name, when they're trying to showcase something new and different?

And what about the Street line? The small city oriented bike line seems to be where one model fits very well. Let's call that the Street Streetfighter!

I expect Pan America, LiveWire, and whatever we end up calling the others (I hope Streetfighter isn't any sort of production name) to just be known by those names. There's no reason to just slap "Sportster" on them unless there is no existing Sportster.

To translate the Harley COO's statement he's saying:

We haven't decided yet, it's up to the customers and the EPA. As long as the Sporty does and can sell, these are not the Sporty. If these take off and sporty sales die, and/or the EPA/EU kills the Sporty, then here are your new Sportys.
