Many like forwards but they dont let you stand over bumps and send shocks straight up your back.
Bars, seat & footrest can also make a huge difference. I see drag bars & forwards (not judst on Harleys) making the rider look like a half shut knife!
Half shut, or half open? Jesse James used to say, in that position he felt like an angry C clamp.

I tend to hammer my way across potholes, steps in the pavement, etc, and nothing works completely. I have to say that a stiffer spring does help, because a stiff ride is way better than a soft ride that allows you to bottom out hard. It's like the soft suspension allows you to accelerate downward over a bump and when it hits bottom it drives the shock right up my spine.

I have forwards on one bike and mids on the other. I like the mids better because of the ability to lift my ass off the seat for the hard hits.

Yeah, I had some short ones off ebay, cool looking, but the has a "jingle" noise to them.
They were cool looking they have like a flame cut housing on them. But I determine the housing was making the jingle noise I tried to get the seller to take them back but he didn't want to in eBay sided with the seller and I even sent eBay a video and everything showing me tapping on them you know off the bike and you can hear the jingling in the living room but they sided with the seller. I wasn't particularly crazy with a ride either.
I got my quarter inch stainless steel spacers from eBay in the mail today I thought I was going to have to use two of them on the top and 2 on the bottom to clear the belt guard but I was able to get the belt guard bracket tweaked around enough to where I could have clearance with just a quarter inch spacer at the top and a quarter inch spacer at the bottom. I ordered my new bolts grade 8 ,
the kind with a built-in washer they are black as well I think it'll look good.
But I ordered the length of the bolts with the intention of 1/2 inch spacer at the top and a half inch spacer at the bottom in order to clear the beltguard so I may have to trim the bolts down a little bit especially the bottom one,
the top one might go in all the way okay.
I personally like the look of the Black Road King shocks on the Sportster.

I have drag bars. Look nice. Hated them when l 1st. Got the bike, but got used to them. Still might try something a few inches taller, sometime, (the handle bars)
(Here are the bolts I have coming. I linked to the fine thread Bolt.
but I also have coarse thread coming for the top the same style of course.)
Bolts will be here tomorrow.

and also the spacers I got on eBay

Here is my black bolts on the 1200, the flash made the top one look gold,

And yes, I'm ashamed of my self for the fender strut covers, (was going through a bad time, got myself feeling better just in time for the cold weather. ....L0L )
I have new/used ones coming from ebay.
(Cant ever seem to link to ebay on here)
