If you foul one plug the engine will appear to run normally (the cylinder is still alive), but the spark is now retarded (for the remaining single plug) and will get very hot, very quickly. How to test? Remove one plug from each head and time it to 45°.

Later intake closing will reduce CCP at cranking and low to moderate speed. When reversion ABDC stops and the torque curve ramps up cylinder pressure may be higher.
