I got mine for less than $200, just have to shop around. Coming up on two years now with absolutely no issues. It has sat for about a month and the battery responds as if it was ridden daily.

I've had mine for well over ten years now and wouldn't trade it for anything. I've also been running a Shorai battery now for about seven years without any problems with either the battery or oil leaks.

Thanks for that info. I'll be taking a close look at mine during my upcoming winter tear down/rebuild.

To clarify you haven't had the same Shorai battery for seven years have you?

Yes, the same Shorai, although now that I think about it, that one is in the Guzzi. I've had the one in the Sportster now for about five years.

Or, buy a can of Seafoam, and run a couple tanks through the system. My carb was spotless inside after 25 years!

Congrats on your new bike! Find a 10k service checklist and go through it on your bike. It'll also help you get acquainted with your new ride.

2002 here and so far mines had rotting vac and fuel lines and leaking valve guide seals.
Lots of build-up on the tops of the valves. I should taken pics . . .
Other than that check your brake pads and a fork oil change might be in order.

10 lbs is a huge savings! Do these have the same dimensions as the stock battery, as in will my stock battery hold-down and cover fit the same? Mine's an '86 and I'd love to be able to save my oil tank from damage.
