Default Sportster weak lifter - what does it sound like?

Tough thing to describe.

What I can describe is what I am experiencing.
Bike is...
2013 XL883L with 11,000kms
rocker lockers fitted
Screamin eagle slip ons
V&H Fuelpak3
K&N filter in standard airbox
I probably change the fluids too often - they are all Penrite recommended oils (Full synthetic 20W-50 for eng)
Bike runs beautifully. I cannot fault how it rides or performs.
I am really happy with it.... but....

There is a noise that is not exhaust or induction.
It is not a tap tap tap noise. Cannot hear at idle.
Cannot hear cold but once it warms up and revs are up around 3500rpm I can hear this odd rattle sound. It goes away when off the throttle and comes back on with load. Does not change in pitch with engine speed really.
I have managed to record it on my gopro.

I watched a youtube vid of a guy with a detonation probelm on his nighster and i could hear his making the same noise but he wasnt referencing this one I could here. I do not have a detonation problem- its not a preignition sound. (like a marble inside a glass jar being shaken). In the comments of his video someone mentioned that they could hear apart from the ping, the tell tale sound of a weak lifter.

Im wondering if a weak lifter is an obvious and detrimental issue or is this sound i can hear a characteristic of 883 HD's.

Im sorry if my description is not the greatest.

I appreciate your help.

Primary chain was checked. I could check it again.
Thinking maybe try at the loose side of tolerance and retest. If no joy - try the tight side of tolerance. Thoughts? Anyone else experience anything like this?

I live over an hours ride away from the nearest HD dealer unfortunately and the closest motorcycle mechanic that I would trust is over 90 minutes away - one way. This is why I try to figure things out myself.

Update: Just checked the primary chain in 4 or 5 spots. Adjusted to 12mm deflection cold at the tightest spot. Ranges between 10 and 12mm so its now within specification. Was found to be on the tight side. Will test and come back with results.

A weak / collapsed lifter allows slack in the pushrod between the lifter and rocker arm when it's unloaded.
This produces a soft tapping noise and should be present with / without throttle.
The cams turn half speed of the crank with 2 lifters per cylinder.
So a quarter speed light tap might indicate to check a lifter.
2 or more light taps from the lifters might lead to time to check the oil circulation from starving the lifters.

The fact that it is only on throttle / load tends to rule out lifters.
Noises on load tend to point toward the primary as rejean mentioned or clutch.
There is a range for the chain tension in the FSM and neither end of the range should produce noise.
Too tight makes a whining noise.

It's best to get a mechanics stethoscope or simply a wooden dowel with one end to your ear and the other on various points on both sides top to bottom of the engine in different RPM as well.

Default Sportster weak lifter

Lot s of good suggestions here.
I am an amateur hack. I worry every time I hear a noise.
But, I have chased bearing/lifter/bottom end noises several time only to find that the noise was a loose bracket or tin piece.
The stethoscope idea will be helpful to locate the noise. Maybe it’s something cheap and ez

Keep in mind primary chain adjustment is like belt adjustment. Slightly loose is much better than slightly tight. Primary chain adjustment DOES vary with a hot vs cold primary and needs to be appropriately adjusted. The primary does "grow" and the chain has less slack when the primary's hot. Make sure there's enough hot slack.
