Actually, your rocker gauge is a good show for flow. Lets you know the pump is working without opening the tank.

That said, it should peg out very shortly after start up and drop to near, but not at nothing, when fully warm. Maybe the gauge is defective as you have flow? Can't have uphill flow without a little pressure. I have one myself, on the rear rocker on the 70ch. Reads near 60 cold and 3-7 hot.

Also, oil light should go out immediately(almost). If it is wired wrong or , in some cases(most) missing the diode, it will always stay on.

As to the oil flow, I think you didn’t run it long enough. You need to see it returning into the tank to be sure, just kill it if it starts to make any scary noises. Congrats on your 1st fire up, it’s always exciting to hear it roar to life for the 1st time and know that all your hard work has paid off!

I thought only the gen light circuit had the diode? I agree though, the oil light should go out pretty soon after start up.

99484-85 Factory wire diagrams for 1979 to 1982 show both indicators are connected to the same orange wire after the diode. Changed for 1983-on.

Yes sir, but boodhah’s bike is a (modified) ‘72 model. I’m at work with no manual to check, but I’m pretty sure his would only have the diode attached to the gen light. Forgive me if I’m wrong!

In 99484-78 the first wire diagram to show the diode is 1978. I think the use of the diode corresponds with the move to the electronic/solid state/whatever it is called regulator. The mechanical regulator models do not need it.
