Default Turn signals required on a '73?

Just wondering if anyone knows the legal requirements for turn signals on a '73. I just bought one that has rear signals but no fronts. Still trying to get it running but not sure if I will need to install front signals to pass inspection. Does the requirement vary by state?

Yep, suggest you check with your state's DMV....

In N.C. I'm running Antique plates on my 73, no inspection required. I don't have turn signals either but have the wires run. Next rewire I'll probably get rid of those wires.

Federal law mandates turn signals on any motorcycle manufactured after January 1, 1973. Whether or not your state enforces that is another matter.

My gal has her own bike (pristine '84 Dyna) and she wouldn't be caught dead on my ironhead...not pretty enough for her. lol

The simple answer for you is yes in WV. You gotta have both front and rear. Or get a limited use antique plate (unless you are lucky enough to ride everyday) and don't worry about the inspection sticker.

From what I was able to make out from the DMV website, you still have to have an inspection even with antique plates. I'll ask about that when I call this week.
