Default Headlamp heat

Hey everyone, I'm new here and this my first post sorry if this has been answered before, but a quick search resulted in no answers.

I have just bought my first Harley 72 and I just got back from a ride and touched the headlamp, and damnnnn it almost burned my hand. Is this normal? I mean this was super hot and I wasn't gone that long. I do have Willie and Max toolbag underneath the light, could this cause an overheating issue?

Thanks for the help in advance.

S

Considering that the filament burns at over 3,600 degrees Farenheit, it gets pretty danged hot. In fact, it's the hottest part on yer motorsickle. Excluding yer girlfriend, of course!

Careful with the tool bag there. I have one below my 48 headlight and the velcro didn't stick right one day and the flap blew up in the wind and melted a bit of the leather. Just a heads up, that light does get very hot.
