Never rode drunk. As I got older my tolerance to alcohol got less,I watched my Dad blow his life up drinking a bottle of vodka a day.Had a drink at New Year never touched it since though I was a beer monster in my teens until mid 30s.Never been into spirits so maybe that was why it was so easy to stop.

I think there's a difference between a hard corps drinker and an alcoholic. I was a hard corps drinker from the age of about 16. Stopped about 25. I'll have maybe 3 beers a year now. Mostly in the summer after working in the garden. I've had a number of alcoholics work for me. There's a difference. I can't put my finger on it but, it just seems that booze is part of their being. Spirits or beer? Doesn't matter, a true alcoholic has his preference but, for them, I don't think one is any easier to quit than the other.

6+ didn't touch a drop for ten years during my 20's. JHARBACK, the difference between a hard drinker and an alcoholic is bad sht happens to alcoholics while hard drinkers can keep family and job and their lives. It's almost a cosmic curse.

I'm a sober rider. The first time I quit drinking was when my daughter was 2 yrs old. I was at a cross roads and being a good mother won out. I never drank again for 18 years. We had a fantastic life all those years. Together we accomplished so much.....so much. I am smiling thinking back on those years/memories. After she was married and had moved away from home I hit the skids. A bad marriage and I returned to old coping skills. I fell of the wagon.......several times. I tired to sober up while still being in that marriage. I just couldn't do it. I tried several times. I finally got my shit together.....got outta that marriage from hell quit drinking and now I have 5 straight years in a row. WooHoo One of the last conversations I had with that MF'er was him screaming at me that I wasn't quitting drinking for "US" . Nope, I am quitting drinking for "ME".

I rode intoxicated one time. Luckily I didn't kill anyone or myself. I do not remember much about that ride but somewhere along the way I lost my gloves. I remember making a u-turn in the middle of the road and going back to get my helmet. That's all I remember. The next memory I have is parking my bike at home. I don't even know how long I was gone. But by the grace of God.......my personal expert lemon aid maker.......I'm always spilling the lemons..........always.

Sober date here is November 13th, 1983. I started when I was eighteen, knew I had a problem (of some sort of other!) by twenty-three, but couldn't quit until age twenty-eight. What a ride it has been!!! Grateful I couldn't get things lined up to own a bike during that time, can I get an amen? I was EXTREMELY fortunate, having the amount of "I nevers" left on the table. Leaving tomorrow for the International Convention in Atlanta. I thank my drinking friends for all their jokes about how big a life insurance policy to take out on me when I was talking about buying a bike during that time.

Oh, forgot to mention I was the first female member of the Fifth Chapter MC in the Northeast (perhaps in the entire country.) We had to jump through some hoops to get women admitted because some guys still wanted to think it was their treehouse! I was full patch charter member, then I figured out later that "sober motorcycle club) was easier said than done. Turned in my colors when some nitwit from another "sober" club started talking about territory and drive-bys. What the frick? There were far too many other important things in life than trying to play ambassador in that kind of silly stuff. We had good people in our chapter, though. It was a difficult decision at the time, unlike deciding drinkee and ridee no mix.

Western Illinois here. Been on the stright and narrow for 2 and a half years now. Traded being -I LUV XLF!--I LUV XLF!--I LUV XLF!--I LUV XLF!-ed up for riding. Actually traded it for the chance at being a better father that sobriety gave me, and bought the sporty with the change. Haven't found a group to ride with around here yet.

Have 7 years now. I'd be dead or in jail otherwise.
