Default Turn signal problems

I'm in need of some help. I just picked up a 1980 Ironhead this past weekend. Bike is in excellent shape but the turn signals do not work. At some point someone tried to rewire them and it's a mess. Is it better to just remove all the old wires and start new or is there a better way to fix without going that route.

Welcome to the XLforum...

You'll have to provide a better description of 'it's a mess' so that we can evaluate what was actually done (or attempted)...

Take a look at this thread:

Thanks for the quick replies. By its a mess I mean none of the wires are the correct color s according to some research I've done and many of the wires are not connected to anywhere. Headlight and tail light work perfectly its only the turn signals from what I can tell. I read some forums on how to rewire them from scratch and just might go that route

A keyed hot wire off the ACC. circuit goes to one contact side of the flasher, then from other contact of the flasher a wire splits into two wires one to each of one contact side of the turn switches, other contact of the switch splitting to front and rear turn lamp bulb, other side of the bulb frame grounds to complete circuit
