Yeah, probably more likely.
How are those 551s and SE 575s compared to Hammer 570? Are there any specs or diagrams available anywhere?
Thanks.

The .575's are 260/266 duration on 102/104 lobe centers. Probably with more valve acceleration than Hammers' 560's. They require more valve spring. Horsepower cams.

.551's are the XR1200 grind. 249/249 duration on 99.5/114.5 lobe centers. They don't make big top end numbers but run nice with a mile wide powerband. They want more compression. I installed them as a drop-in in my 1200 originally. That gave 180 lbs cranking pressure. I've got a Hammer 10.5:1 1275 kit now with SE heads (60cc combustion chambers) and 210 lbs cranking pressure. They just run nice. In my bike they gave no increase in cam / valve train noise, they sound just like the W's I took out.

I assume the cam to cam gears changed at the same time the crank pinion and cam drive gear went to fine pitch. The aftermarket (Andrews) stuck with the coarse tooth cam to cam gears, only changing the cam drive gear to match to fine tooth pinion.

At least that's my understanding. What year did the fine tooth (high contact ratio) pinion gear begin? I think that was in 2000.
