Thanks guys! I have one of the Dixies on its way. Should be here Friday.

Coupla responses to your questions and input:

Yup, plenty of slack in the wiring to the switch, so I'm pretty sure that was not pulling on and stressing the connection. Just a very poorly executed hollow rivet whose hollow, flared end failed under vibration.

Just the one key in the ignition, no key ring at all. All of my bike keys are "stand alone", nothing else attached. And yes, I know - I've seen key rings dangling off of bikes with the house key, the garage key, the gate key, the shed key, the safe key, the pickup truck key, the lawnmower key, the car key, the boat key, the toolbox key, the skate key (anyone remember those?), the... yeah, all of half a pound of dangling, jangling annoyance wearing a hole in the guy's left pant leg. Just shake my head...

As cheap as it is to get duplicate house keys, all my vehicles have only 2 or 3 keys on their ring. No need to put every key on one big ring.

My wife on the other hand, still carries the key to the house she grew up in. Fortunately her car lets her keep the keys in her purse.
