Thanks needspeed. That's good, don't particularly want 10:1 so happy if they're not that high, that's just what it came with.

Cam cover back on, pushrods in and alternator back on:



Next job will be adjust pushrods, install and set points then set static timing. After that I can move around to the primary and have a play with the hydraulic clutch before pulling the trans to swap the 4th gear and fit the splined shift lever shaft.

Thanks for that, it's definitely continuing. Bit more progress today:

Pushrods adjusted, points in and adjusted, static timing done.
Before pulling the trans I want to get my head around the hydraulic clutch and hopefully get it working. It's the design yoshi came up with, but with a slightly different slave cylinder as the one he used isn't available any longer. Details are on his thread about it.
I spent a while getting the slave cylinder fitted so that it is secure and doesn't block the path to putting in the primary cover bolt:



Fitted the longer rod that yoshi machined for me:



Bled the line through to see it working for the first time. It's a bit variable so far, probably still some air in the line and the primary cover is off, guess it will return better when the cover is on. Here's a quick view of what it does when I pull in the clutch lever:

Next step will be to fit the primary, bleed the line through properly, adjust the clutch and see how it is then. Didn't have time to do that today as the sun came out so I took out the 76 for a ride.

Had a play with the clutch today. Pulling on the lever seems to be doing what it should do:

Plates aren't moving though, whichever gear it's in pulling in the clutch lever doesn't allow it to roll free. This engine was put together over 4 years ago so the plates may well be stuck together, either that or I need to adjust to get more movement. Will pull the plates out and reinstall them next weekend then see how it is. Fine tuning can be done later but really want to get this hydraulic clutch working to some degree before I pull the trans, just so I know it works.

Clutch plates stuck for sure.

Start motor and warm up,

Get bike rolling and drop it into gear.

Shift into 2nd or 3rd.

Pull clutch lever in and rapidly open and close the throttle and the clutch will unstick.

Slip the clutch a little to "burn the fuzz off it".

Ride it like you stole it....

That makes a lot of sense ryder rick. I would like to get the clutch free before starting it for the first time though as I can't ride it until I get it reregistered It's registered properly in my name but the rules here mean I need to redo it (an inspection and a lot of paperwork, and a fair bit of time basically) after so much alteration and get a new plate. No riding till after that is done.
So I'll probably pull the plates, reinstall them then see if it will run if the clutch is working ok then. After getting it running I'll pull the trans to change to splined shift lever, remove and plug kickstart shaft and fit different 4th gear. If I can't get it running I'll sort the trans then try again. In theory it's ready to run now. After all this time I'm not in a rush.
