Call your H-D dealer. Get the number and then look for it made by Odesey. AGM technology, killer CCA for the 1st 30 seconds. No acid spills or terminal corrosion. Virtually immune to vibration.

NOT CHEAP.

WORTH EVERY CENT.

Default The cheap one will screw you...

...Get either the one sold by H-D or get it directly from the manufacturer, Deka.
You'll save some real $$$
The H-D battery number for it is 65948-00.

Picked up this replacement AGM battery yesterday for a '74 XLH project I'm working on. This is my first experience with an AGM battery..... so far I'm luvin' the lighter weight, no vent tube, and no spill features.

For my fellow IH owners in Canada....... CarQuest re-labels the Deka ETX14 under their brand. $69.95 CDN + tax..... although the CarQuest guy did say that was their sale price.

Here's some old wet cell vs new AGM technology pics:

Sorry to resurrect a 2-3 year old post. I've had a few requests for pics of the AGM installed...... so figured I'll just add to this thread rather than start a new one, keeping the pics altogether.

'74 XLH (right side), with battery lid removed. Complete with styrofoam padding & home made insulator over + post:

'74 XLH (left side), with battery removed. Needed to fill in the gap in the floor of the battery box.... used a thin piece of paneling:

Anyway, maybe it'll give you some ideas on how an AGM might be done on your ride.

Thank you for the pics! I'm sure a lot of bikes have gotten rid of the boat anchor battery. Sure you could still use one but why would anyone unless they had a perfect, show bike?

It was Jan 2012 when I installed a Deka ETX14 - 220 CCA in my ride. (scroll back a couple of posts to Post # 18).

After 8 1/2 + years it no longer had the punch (200+/- AMPs) to start my '74 XLH, despite been fully charged. This weekend I upgraded to a Deka ETX16 - 325 CCA. A tighter fit, due to the increased size, required cutting some fresh styrofoam.

The increased height wasn't too bad BUT it did bring the positive post closer to the battery cover lid, so I took a few extra precautions to help avoid an accidental grounding point.

Here's a few pics of what it looks like now, with the ETX16:
