That one has the Roadster fuel tank. Does it look also like it has the 2" over forks? If so then it may be an XLS [minus the original seat and sissy bar] rather than an XLH.

Just for info. I own a 1983 XLS and a 1983 FXR. I know the 2 tanks are a tad different.

But it is dark and late here. So no pictures to show the differences right now. Shop is locked up.

Maybe tomorrow.

but in the relative broad scope of discussing the two tanks in question, one is the FX tank the other is the FXR style. As opposed to the standard Sportster tank. when you see them in a picture (which was all we were doing) seems to be the easiest way descriptively to differentiate the two different style tanks don't you think?

Also. no problemo.

From top on down.

2. Dusty 1983 FXR. Just put in evo motor. Shovel Head motor on the bench needing a rebuild. It has been to the moon and back since 1983. Clutches need work. Hence the dust.
1. Other side of Dusty FXR showing kicker and electric start on a 5 speed.
3. 1983 XLS Roadster. Semi-Stock. Wifes main ride but she lets it sit too damn long.
Needs some TLC from me. Mikuni HSR carb works good on 1000 cc stock motor.
4. Dusty Stock FXR Tank. Showing the gas gauge, Sending unit and float is under it. I am running custom one piece 5 gallon fatbobs on my FXR.
5. Stock tach XLS Tank. Speedo is between handlebars on custom bracket mount.

When we get wind. My bikes get dusty. Just a fact of life in the desert.
Nothing a hose cannot handle later on.

Those big feet floor boards are my home made custom crash bars made by me.
For Me. Makes it easier to pick up the bike when I go down. Which happens from
time to time. No biggy. Except for others (Mick?).
Same goes for the heel toe forward control shift stuff.
My shift foot ankle does not work so well going up.

Kool stuff. I rode one of the first FXRs to hit Arkansas back in the fall of 1981. I'd just bought a new '82 FXE a month earlier in September and was curious about the new model, called the Super Glide II. After the FXE, the FXR felt incredibly smooth and shifted as slick as a jap bike. The dealer had tried to get me to wait for the new FXR, but I'd always wanted a traditional, primitive, agricultural Super Glide, and i'm glad I waited. I wanted that old time HD religious experience...
