There's supposed to be two brackets on the underside, one for each seat spring post. 1972 ironheads have two seat posts. I've had it for a month and I didn't notice it either until today.

Okay I take it back. There's only one bracket/tab thing hanging from the underside of the T. But how the hell does it work? What parts am I missing now? I have the springs and posts. What else do I need? Back to the drawing board.

Turn off the net and open your manual. All of the answers you have been looking for your entire build are right there. Your making a 1972 xl build way more complicated than it is. Read the manual and assemble per instructions and pics. With that internet, your cutting down the tress to clear the view for the forest directly in front of you.
