Very responsive, no backfiring on deceleration and it starts way easier. I couldn't be happier.

If your fuel line fit tightly over the elbow barb, the clamp should only be to keep it from pulling off - The barb should seal the hose from leaking.

Large diameter worm drive hose clamps (like 2" or bigger) actually work very well. But the really small ones become out of round when you tighten them, causing them to be loose in some spots and too tight in others. The replaceable Japanese spring steel style clamps work well if you can find one to fit. The Sportster fuel hose is 1/2" outside diameter, and just a little more than that when pushed over the fittings. Because the carb hose connection is hidden, and you have to remove so many things to get to it, it's not a good place to have a leak.

This video has a good explanation of clamps. You will never find a worm drive clamp on a motorcycle, or on a car made during the last 40 years or so. I love those spring clamps. Not only do they work perfectly, but they can be easily removed and reinstalled many times, with no special tools. I wish that is what Harley had used. The stock Oetiker clamps and a $20 tool to install them can be found at Amazon.

Thanks for the insight JunkyardDog. I like the factory clamp and think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy the tool. I'll be doing more of these in the future and don't want to take a chance on fuel leaks.
