According to the 99484-85 Factory Service Manual, for 1984 the vertical bar is front cylinder TDC, the single dot is front cylinder advance timing, the lazy 8 is rear cylinder advance timing.

You do have to ignore this information and determine what is the front cylinder TDC by inspection. The only way to know for certain is by looking, because you cannot know if the flywheel is the original one installed at the factory. What is actually in the timing inspection hole when the front cylinder is at TDC?

The other marks - drilled holes, lazy 8, etc are not relevant.

Trusting the manual on a 1980 that i owned some years ago cost me a complete engine rebuild, about $3000.00.
