Default A Separate Speedo and Tach

I plan to eventually get a newer Roadster (XL1200CX). I'm planning quite a few changes (Gas tank, fenders, seat, bars), but the one that I would like to do may not be possible. I really would prefer a separate analog type speedometer and tachometer. It's what I have on my 2005 Roadster and I prefer it to the single unit with the digital read out for speed on the bottom of the face with a tach needle above.

My electrical knowledge is a bit weak, so I don't know if it's possible or not. If it is possible, how would I go about it?

Being as you have a donor bike, you could try just swapping the clocks complete with wiring loom over. Should be a plug and play jobby. Don't think you would need to mount the gauges, just plug in under the tank. If all works, at least you will know what parts you will need.

Just had another thought, are the newer bikes can-bus? If so my first idea could be completely wrong!

Can-bus started in 2014 on Sportsters.

So I guess the answer is no. Pity.

AutoMeter makes electronic tachs and speedos that have the analog look sweep. Kinda expensive tho.

Or, just to throw another spanner in the works, how about going for a mega low mileage '13 or even a '14 pre can bus? Then you could have the speedo/tacho set up you prefer.
Would these years have the other benefits you are looking for?

Koso sells speedometers that have a sensor you can put on your swing arm and use your sprocket to read the speed. You would probably have to fabricate a bracket to hold the sensor to the sprocket and then you have to figure out the calculations to get the speedometer to read correctly. I don't know about the tachs though.
