I know right? This job was the biggest pain in butt of any job I’ve done on this bike in the seventeen years I’ve owned it. Pump side connection is a piece of cake I’m not so sure about the small nut at the other end.

Looked in the oil bag just now and to my delight the oil level has not dropped. With the old pump the oil would disappear into the abyss overnight. Definitely a good sign. When I get a chance I’ll take a spirited ride and see what happens. Yesterday I changed the primary fluid and the engine oil so I have a good baseline to see what transpires. Set the oil level half way on the dipstick.

“Spirited ride”, you go! You’ll be a hooligan before you realize it, and might qualify for a “Michigan Posse” membership!

Haha Paul been a hooligan for a long time. I’ve been on two wheels most of my life starting with a little mini bike at 12.

So, update on the oil/primary and oil pump install. Good news so far. I took a 200 mile rip this weekend and I see no leaks, hardly any drop in oil level in the tank, no low oil pressure light, and nothing puking from the primary vent! Wooooohooooo so far so good. Made sure to give it a lot of juice and get the rpm up to try and make the primary vent puke and didn’t see a drop so maybe problem solved with the new oil pump? Just the fact that the oil tank isn’t losing oil overnight is a big thing. Before it was lowering like crazy sitting overnight in the garage.

a test you could do is to drain the primary oil, take off the primary cover, top off the engine oil and run it it neutral with the primary cover off and see where the engine oil leaks from.

If it leaks from the crank seal then remove any crankcase venting devices like hoses, valves etc. so that the crankcase is freely venting to the atmosphere, it's very rare for a neoprene or nitrile spring loaded crank seal that is not really, really old to leak like that unless it's under a lot more pressure than it was designed for.
