A couple years ago I was a little too tired and pressed for time so I rushed through wrapping up a cam swap in one of my cars (long story involving a fiasco with a major US cam manufacturer). I overlooked one stupid little thing that resulted in me bending all 8 valves on the passenger side of the motor and marking up the pistons when the motor turned over. These were discontinued, impossible to find big dollar hollow intake and sodium filled exhaust valves. In the end I had to spend hours scowering the internet attempting to find someone in the US with said valves, hundreds of dollars on the valves themselves and multiple multiple hours pulling the head, removing and reinstalling the valve springs, lapping in the valves, dealing with coolant everywhere, sanding down the rough spots from the valve impression on the pistons, etc. I was not a happy camper.

That was the only time I rushed something like that in my life and I never will again. Please no one make the same mistake.

No Fords for me!

Gen III LS6 motor. Forgot to install the rocker arms pedestal on the passenger side. Torqued rocker arms down turned motor over and crunch!

I went postal at the time but can now look back and laugh about it.

Alright guys, I am already in Hostile Zone.... in four weeks, (Inshallah ), I will finish it all a have a BIG in my face.... I am overnighting in a Hotel.... at AM I will fly to Base Camp.... Once settled (another "Inshallah") I will upload the latest results of the Squish Band Clearance... Yes, that´s right... I was not happy and I did it again... this time looks better... even though the average are +- the same...

REAR: 0.035
FRONT: 0.035

so....... should I leave at that??? we have four (4) weeks to think about that.... or should I go with a 0.010 Base gasket and drop the Squish to 0.025??

Food for thought!

The .035" is good, I say leave it. I’m pretty anal about this stuff and I’d be happy with that number.

.025" is playing with fire potentially in my opinion.

I believe Hammer states .030" is the ideal but it's not always possible to get it 100% spot on that number. .035” is pretty close.

The difference from 0.035 to 0.030 will change the total area of the above the piston by less than 1 CC. (I calculated 0.83 CC after not quite one cup of coffee )

Going to 0.025 would make about 1.66 CC difference.

I'll let you figure the difference in compression ratio since I don't know how big (CCs) your combustion chambers are.
