Haha! Yeah that could be dangerous.

It's been said more than once here and I'm pretty sure thats what you(themadone) was alluding to before doing the backstroke, that this is what the Sportster should've been long ago.
This is what I have a problem with. This kind of motorcycle has always had the reputation of the kind of riding and attracting the kinder of riders that HD has always disassociated itself from. It's never been what the Sportster is about.(or any HD for that matter)
If anything, it's been a favorite of chopper builders. Not crotch rockets.
I'm not saying everyone that likes this bike is an immature punk riding wheelies all over town. But it does fly in the face of the image HD has wanted to be portrayed as or the type of rider it's bikes attract.
If they want to go down that road in the name of $$$, fine. That's their right. But it's not the same road the Sportster has ever traveled or ever should travel. The Sportster is an icon.

This streetfighter is going to have to make it on it's own merit. Travel it's own road. Attract its own following and see if it can survive. I don't think it will because despite what some of you want to believe, your view of where the future of HD is at is not that popular. The kind of rider it will attract either won't be able to afford it or at least won't want to spend that kind of money on it.
There will always be exceptions of course.

sadly...
most likely, at least in EU, HD will stop to sell Sporties... to comply with EU rules...
we all will find ourselves with an iconic charismatic bike of the past... a bit like Dyna owners...

these among us who will have intention to buy a new bike... will find no brand new Sporties in the landscape...

I wonder who writes these EU rules? Some unelected bureaucrat? What is their intention?

I had a long forum discussion (on a different forum) with a California Air Resources Board guy several years back.

His focus was never about motorcycles, about how they were used, and about their net impact on the environment.
He thought "AUTOMOBILE" and wanted to regulate motorcycles like they do autos.

A motorcycle can't be compared to an auto anymore than autos can be compared to trucks/transporters/lorries.
The miles driven per year, the average life span, and the typical way they are used is completely different than other types of vehicles.

So my conclusions are that the people who write legislation either have no idea what they're doing or they are letting some other organization
like environmental groups, insurance industry, or even the motorcycle industry take the lead on where the motorcycle legislation is going.

So if you want all motorcycles to be pink with feathers you can probably get it passed. Just write up some half-way believable research paper
proving pink feathered motorcycles are good for the environment and much safer.
Then pay some lobbyist a bunch of money to "influence" some bureaucrats and lawmakers and there ya go.... pink feathered motorcycles.

I hope you don't think this is politics.
I'm just trying to answer the question. It's really my thoughts on how and why legislation/regulations get passed at least here in the USA.
