One of the problems with race bikes is that (like houses !) they are never finished.
They keep evolving while they are being raced.
Once they get "retired" people often want to "pretty them up"

They turn them into show bikes with paint and chrome. Often "kludges" done at a race meeting will get rectified in "more fitting manner".

For me, that kinda destroys them as they really aren't the same bikes "as raced".

Pretty sure that's a Yetman frame.

back in the day the M&H was the ONLY tire you could get. Didn't matter as the tracks and bikes then were set up to spin the back wheel off the line.

I looked at building a "Nostalgia" dragster a while back but with today's grippy tracks it all becomes a different ball game.

The only racing slick available back then was the Avon 4" slick, the M&H wasn't available until a. couple of years later. The yetman frame became available in 1969 and was one of the first lightweight racing frames available.

Ah, yes, I have it backwards again.

Improvements in tire technology have been HUGE over the years. They are responsible for most of the improvements in lap times with Historic bikes for years now.

Exactly my point, Gene, get rid of the history and personnality to make it into a bland shinny exhibit next to another lame street bike or whatever.

Then the punter that knows fookall is happy at paying the entry price...

Anyway, I always though this HD museum is nothing more than an entry to the sales room, ie not really done with the care the exhibits needed...

They had loads of OEM untouched never started bikes, they all have been re-chromed/re-painted, that's not restoration, that's sacrilege...

And all of that behind the 1st ever lie, that they started production in 1903, when anyone with a modicum of brains and interest knows it can't be before 1905.
