Default Lympstone, 23rd July 2019

Today I went on a ride to Lympstone in Devon. Lympstone is on the Exe estuary, about 2 miles North of Exmouth.

This is the route that I took:

It was a bit foggy when I started out, but that soon cleared. I went along the A/M27, A31, and A35 to Charmouth, then the A3052 to Lyme Regis. I stopped in Lyme Regis and took some pics.

Lyme Regis:

After Lyme Regis, I continued on the A3052 (which was very quiet: I had the road to myself!) to Newton Poppleford. Along the way I passed a crossroads called "Hangman's Stone"! Then B roads and minor roads to Budleigh Salterton.

Budleigh Salterton:

I left Budleigh Salterton along a road called 'Outer Ting Tong'! This was one of the roads (another being: 'Inner TIng Tong') to the Thing Tun (place where the governing assembly was held). And on to Lympstone.

Here's the last bit of the journey (about 10 miles) at a much larger scale:

I found somewhere to park the bike, and walked into the centre of the village.

First glimpse of the waterfront:

The main village street:

I had lunch in The Swan Inn.

The Swan Inn:

After lunch I thought I'd look around a bit more.

Oh, hello:

I went down to the waterfront:

On the way back I thought I'd explore some of the little alleys:

Which brought me out further along the waterfront:

Where's this go:

Oh, look:

Last glimpse of the waterfront before leaving:

This is my return route:

Here's the first part of the route, down to Exmouth and along the sea front there, at a larger scale:

On the quay at Exmouth:

The tip of Dawlich Warren Spit, seen across the River Exe:

Cockwood, across the river:

Cockwood and, to the right, Starcross:

Fish being unloaded from a fіshing bοat at the dock:

From Exmouth I went back up to Newton Poppleford; pretty much directly, not going via Budleigh Salterton this time. Then back home by the same route. There are lengthy rοadworks on the M27, from Southampton and past Portsmmouth, with a 50 mph speed limit through the rοadworks. Even when they eventually came to an end, there was pretty bad congestion anyway; traffic was often at a standstill. Consequently I was lane splitting, pretty much continously, for miles!

Total distance: 334 miles.

It was a great day: the weather was very hot and sunny, and Lympstone is lovely.

Lovely pictures and a good day out. I've spent many happy hours fishing for mackerel from Chesil bank. Also the quaint Wet Fish Shop down by the Cobb in Lyme Regis. Thank you.
