The reason so many people choose Featherbeds for Specials Building (especially in Historic Racing) is that the Featherbed , (FB) is the strongest frame made prior to Deltaboxes of Yamaha.
The FB neck has the top frame rails running into the neck at 90 degrees to the perpendicular. That means that most of the twisting forces on the neck feed into the ends of the frame rails in compression and tension.
Look at any high performance motorcycle frame now and you'll see the same principle.

The loads imposed by sliding a bikes sideways on bitumen are probably an order of magnitude higher than just riding a solo around the turn.

Telescopic forks will just twist and bend. Spokes get pulled out of rims. Fraames flex, crack and break.

The secrets for strength lie in design, not heavier castings.

If you look at the first of the two pics in this thread you can see us on full opposite lock sliding towards the ripple strip on the outside of the track. Try that on a stock Sportster and you'll destroy it in short order.

Oh yes!
I have a converted Shovelhead/Servicar 3 wheeler it has cracked the frame more than a couple times!
I can imagine what that punishment would do to an Ironhead frame!

I fixed the headshake issue with sidecar trees off a Pan, and it has not broken since.

They don't call me Ironhead Rick just because I'm hard headed
