Default advance unit

while doin maintenance this am, swapped some better weights and holder and noticed the better one is a mirror image of the old. As if it is intended to run clockwise. What does this fit? I kept the weights but had to drive the roll pins thru so I could flip em over. If I have ever seen this before I don't remember it.

Without being able to see it and without a parts book nearby I'll throw out a guess. The '70 and earlier vertical circuit breakers with advance weights do run clockwise. Later engines with cone covers turn CCW.
Again, just a guess.

this looks exactly like the stock 1974 unit except it is a mirror image of it. the weights are the same castings just run upside down so they will expand when running clockwise.

Do the weights look like the ones in this thread?

exactly, but those are the same ones used in shovelheads and the xl cam cover advance units. only difference is that roll pin is protruding thru the other side. this thing I've got has the same weight carrier as a 74 xl but is a mirror image of it.
