I found that the regular circlip (snap ring) pliers that I could buy at the local car accessories place was no use for the circlips on the footpeg pins. The holes in the circlip are too small. instead I got a pair of Snap-On circlip pliers with especially small pins: #SRPC3890.

FYI

There are two types of snap rings, internal and external. If you are buying a set to keep in your tool box I would suggest the combo type.

Sears has a set for 20 bucks plus tax.

Craftsman 2 pc. Universal Retaining Ring Pliers
