Default ‘21 Forty-Eight Stage 1 Hi Flow A/C backplate gasket issue

I went for a nice long ride yesterday on my ‘21 Forty-Eight with no issues. I cleaned the bike off a little, and rolled it in the garage. I just went out to plug the battery tender in and cover the bike, and I notice the gasket on the back of the induction module backplate has, well, done this:

No idea how that happened. You have to screw the A/C mounting studs all the way through, and the hole for the top right one is completely intact/no tears.

I was going to ride tomorrow. Is it ok to ride with it like this? That gasket sits in between the backplate and the induction module itself. I can’t find where anything leaked at all. But I’m wondering if it might lead to other damage (and if so, what)

Thanks in advance!

That is weird. Perhaps a slight leak of unfiltered air into the intake system as a result? Is that an aftermarket AC? Who did the install, and when? Perhaps it's been like that for a while?

It’s an OEM Stage 1 kit, so it’s a Harley bracket, A/C element, and gasket. I did the install myself.

IDK, perhaps it slipped when you installed it, and only now noticed? Your picture looks like there is a gap. Did you use different screws? I recall a few years ago there were a lot of posts about cracked induction modules due to owners using too long bolts when doing the HD aircleaner install. My carb gasket has an extra hole for the bowl vent, but with EFI bikes I have no idea if they changed the gasket design.

Unfortunately there is only one suspect on the install.

I used the hardware that came with the kit. The gap that you see is where the gasket has slipped out from.

Closing the loop on this one...

When I first installed the Stage 1 kit, I noticed a gap of about 5/8” between the induction module backplate and the module itself. Well, that’s because on the stock A/C assembly, there’s a bracket that’s used that the OEM Stage 1 kit doesn’t. But of course, the instructions that come with the kit do not mention it directly. So when I took off the kit to remove the old bracket, I guess I wasn’t paying attention, or I didn’t put Locktite back on threads, because everything was loose: breather bolts, mounting studs, etc.

My dealer had a new gasket in stock, so I replaced it, put Locktite on, tightened up everything like it’s supposed to, and rode it. No more problems.
