Hi everyone, is this scheme valid?

G' morning chaps! I'm going to be having a crack at this particular install, so once again reviving this thread from the depths, but hopefully with a bit of insight from yourselves this could turn into a good little guide for those (like me) who've no experience in wiring or soldering or anything and want to try this mod.

So for starters I've laid all of this out in a YouTube video as it might explain it better than my digital chicken scratch. That said I'll try and type out all the nonsense I spoke in the video too. That video is here: https://youtu.be/SbmFp68bNLs

I'm going to be getting the Motoscope Mini Speedometer, the Motogadget H-D Top Clamp, and the M-Can adapter to make it all work nicely. Below are links to the manuals, I'll post the tables for wiring too.
Motoscope Mini: https://motogadget.com/shop/media/do...l_en_2.3_k.pdf
Motogadget Top Clamp: https://www.motogadget.com/shop/medi...al_en_v1.1.pdf
M-Can Adapter: https://www.motogadget.com/shop/medi...nual_de_en.pdf

Also here's the wiring diagram for my bike. If you get your VIN number for your bike you can get these from: http://serviceinfo.harley-davison.com/
https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....295d158a1!!1!2

My 2004 Sporty doesn't have a fuel sensor, it's old fashioned in the sense of when you run outta fuel you gotta quickly reach for the reserve tap switch, so won't be wiring in anything for fuel sensors on this setup.

Starting off with the M-Can - Am I right in assuming that this literally just plugs into the Diagnostic socket thing next to the battery? The grey plug?
Pic: https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/cimg/www.hdf...tor-136291.jpg

I can see where most of the M-Can wiring goes as on the M-Can Adapter manual there is a very easy to read diagram that shows you how to hook it up to the Motoscope mini, I'll post my own little wiring diagram at the bottom for how I'm thinking of hooking it up.

The only thing is there is the Check Engine Light wire from the M-Can. According to this diagram it goes to an "LED", I saw on Black Iron's diagram about it going to the "Check Engine Earth" wire on the top clamp, is that right?

Here is my wiring diagram so far. All these labels are from the manuals and by following the wires on my Main Harness Wiring Diagram, please excuse any mistakes. A few things are still disconnected which I need help with if that's okay? (This is better explained on the video link at the top) Out of the wiring harness (Top left) I have PIN 1 and PIN 12 which I need to know where they go. I think PIN 1 goes to the Red wire that connects the M-Can Adapter to the Motoscope Mini, but which side of the fuse does it need to be? As for PIN 12 it looks like this is a ground connection, just need to know what I have to hook up to this.

Further to that I've got "Power Earth" and "Power +12v" from the Top Clamp, where do I wire these to?
And finally the 4 remaining wires from the the main harness, what do I do with these? (PIN 2: Battery. PIN 6: ???. PIN 7: Serial Data. PIN 11 Security Lamp)

I understand this is ALOT of information, so the video should explain it a little bit more smoothly. That said once I've got it all figured out I'll post a wiring diagram for the lot so others can follow it if needs be.

Thanks for the assist chaps

You may want to reduce the size of your images so this page display does not need to be scrolled left & right to see them...

I believe the added wires in this diagram will complete your circuits. I put this diagram in the Sportsterpedia temporarily.
When you post your final diagram, I'll see about replacing the temporary one.

http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...motoscope_mini

Switched +12v Power can be obtained from the ORANGE/White wire (Accessory Fuse) as you have it.

However, I changed that in your diagram to use Pin6, the ORANGE wire. The ORANGE wire from the Instrument Fuse
is the correct place to get power. Both are switched +12v power with 15amp fuses at the fuse panel but the
Accessory Circuit is designed to operate lights for emergencies. In addition, as you noted, Motogadget is
suggesting to add a 1amp fuse to protect their devices.

After the fuse, the power needs to connect to the Check Engine Light, the common power for
the Top Clamp & to power both the mini & the OBD adapter.

Your grounds need to all be connected together as shown.

Your Check Engine Light is GROUNDED (when turned ON) by the output from the OBD adapter.

Your Menu Button needs to be grounded to function.

If you want/need to use the Security light function that can be implemented by adding a separate bulb or LED.
That function (light) was inside the OEM speedometer.

First off thank you so much for your speedy response IXL2Relax, really appreciate that! And for completing my diagram for me I can't thank you enough!

Noted! Sorry I have an obnoxiously large monitor.

Wicked! I shall update it soon and post it as a reply.

This info is gold for a monkey like me, thanks! Really useful stuff.

I'm fine rolling without it to be honest.

So from here I'm gonna empty my pockets and buy some parts (After pay day that is...) I feel alot more comfortable having a crack at this now. I'll post back with my results and/or failures
Thanks again buddy!

After thinking about it, that indicator is used for a number of functions and some folks may need it. So I altered the wiring diagram to show a separate LED implementing that function.

Thanks for posting your diagram - I think you did a good job of pulling all the pieces together in a way that is quite straight forward to understand.
