Mahle was OC21, and i may have been a bit harsh on it. At least it has top by-pass and
a fair bit of filter medium.
What does surprise me is how small the gap is between filter and casing on normal cannister types. If they have a bottom by-pass then surely most of what ever the filter has managed to catch, will be washed off at cold start ups.

Anyone know the difference / which is the best between Mahle OC21 and OC21OF as both are listed as suitable for the Sportster engine.

Great Post Toejam503!
Great Post Toejam503,
I just watched the FortNine oil filter shootout. Great info and a real-world test.
Reassuring as i just bought a bunch of the standard long oil filters from DK.
I'm a detail freak so I'll be doing early oil changes as a matter of course. I should be doing the best I can for the engine based on that.
Again, great post and thanks for putting that up for the rset of us.
Best regards,
FiftySixer

The fact that he pointed out that a paper oil filter also absorbs damaging moisture was a plus for me.
