Default Disassemble tranny HELP

2007 883

So I'm down to left side engine case setting on my workbench, with 2 tranny shafts attached.

I just cannot find how to go further. Books and YouTube vids show the old style transmission. Where you pull a plate from the primary case with tranny guts attached.

Can someone provide a link to getting the main shaft out? Looks like a nut holds the countershaft in (left or right thread?) It's no. 1 in the pic attached above.
Maybe then the main shaft will pull out?

OR do I have to take to the shop at this point

You need a shop press to do this the right way.
The shafts are pressed into the bearings which in turn are pressed into the cases.
Buy new bearings also, you will damage the old ones in the process of removing them.

Looked this up for the 2006 bikes, fsm shows pressing both out at the same time with a 'transmission remover' tool. there is also a special tool/ jig ( in the fsm) used the press the transmission shafts into the bearings in the lh case.

There is a way around the special tool.
You remove all the gears/bearing from each of the shafts while they are still in the cases.
Then you can press each one out separately.

Either way you need a shop press and the HD service manual.

No can do. Some of the gears are integral to the shafts.

I thought so. You are pressing shafts out of bearings, without being able to support the inner races. You'd think the bearings would be trashed. BUT the FSM does not state, buy new bearings....

I was trying to find an old-timer to press these. Guess I'll end up buying a 12T press... I tried the local MoCo dealer Apparently, they aren't allowed to actually HELP people.

My new 12 ton press pushed those shafts out easily.
I pushed both bearings out too.
FAG website says they will take axial loads, but better safe than sorry. #6305.C3 and 559675.
Peace of mind and whatnot.
New parts will be ordered this wk.
I just joined the press era!
