Thanks. Looking at page 213 of the manual it says to soak the tappets in oil. I did not full remove the tappets, just the push rod. This is for the 91-2003 models. While the pushrods were out, I filled up the tappets with motor oil and let it soak for a few days until the head gaskets were in. To make sure we are talking about the same thing, which part are you referencing? I did clean out all of the oil in the tappets (above the circlip) before I put in the push rods. There was metal dust in the tappets in the rear cylinder that I saw, so I wanted to clean that out. I can put more oil in before I push the guides into place. I have them collapsed right now.

I put the oil in the tappets like you said and let it sit for a while. They do go up and down now. Thanks again. Once the cam plate comes in, I can finally get the motor buttoned up, then on to wiring before I get to see if I reassembled a hand grenade.
