Sorry should have posted this a year ago to finish story...

I found out that the Voltage Regulator tested fine in the garage but when vibrating down the road, it was crap.

Since I couldn't determine a "better" regulator, I replaced the Alternator Conversion/Regulator with a Cycle Electric Low Volt Generator/Regulator CE320L and it fixed the issue. It is nice to have customer support that answers the phone and helps.

Guess I should have went there first but I like the idea of an alternator since it is "newer" technology.

If lithium batteries were better in cases like this, the military would use them instead of Odyssey AGM....which is what they use and I use them in all my vehicles where one is available.

It is possible the alternator voltage was too high when running above idle and then the battery management system built into the battery electronic switched into over-voltage mode and switched off the charge circuit.

If you run a lithium battery, you must understand the low and high voltages are different than standard batteries.

Higher amps and less weight may be important to some people. Apparently, the military does not need them in 60 ton tanks, and needs the higher reliability and standardization of fleet AGM batteries offer.

I never understood the need to save xx lbs on a 500+ lb bike....some BMW guys want to use them (Lithium) and on those bikes the battery is hidden under the seat/tools/next to the ABS module and above the transmission with ZERO ventilation.....until it ignites and burns through the seat and YOU...there was good reason the airlines banned them years back......too bad they had to cave to the cell phone fools.....

one killer of the battery is ac ripple and frequency as it can cause the battery to over-heat. the battery fairs better with a dc generator or 3 phase alternator. some times adding a filter capacitor to the system will shunt the ac ripple to ground and help the battery out. since most regulators use a zener ref voltage, the output can very especially with heat so a 14.7 zener could range 13.8 to near 15 volt. of note also is what load the battery is seeing.

1977 XLH, 4 5/8 S&S crank and .020 over pistons, Andrews X cams and W-C trans gears and shafts, dual plugged heads, Ultima iggy, S&S Super E, Cycle Electric genny and reg. frame stretched and lowered. Many hand made parts. Lots of blood, sweat, and beers went into this scoot.

My flooded H12 does just fine. Between the vibration and the heat somebody`s ride will go up in smoke with the LI batteries

That is not to say that lithium-ion batteries are flawless. They have a few disadvantages as well:

They start degrading as soon as they leave the factory. They will only last two or three years from the date of manufacture whether you use them or not.
They are extremely sensitive to high temperatures. Heat causes lithium-ion battery packs to degrade much faster than they normally would.
If you completely discharge a lithium-ion battery, it is ruined.
A lithium-ion battery pack must have an on-board computer to manage the battery. This makes them even more expensive than they already are.
There is a small chance that, if a lithium-ion battery pack fails, it will burst into flame.
