What seat is that? I had many different seats on my '05, including some actually meant for an '07 - '09 which barely had room for the ICM at all (I lowered the ICM slightly), and never had a problem with the close (or non existent) clearance.

I bought a cafe looking seat. Again, all I want to know if which is the best way to gain this extra clearance?

I bought a Sundowner for my '05 and it would not fit as it did not have the recess underneath, so i sold it and bought one that did, but wish i had given this a bit more thought beforehand as i preferred the Sundowner. Is it possible to cut out a small section of the base to sit over the ICM?, or get the ICM to sit a fraction lower?
Best of luck mate, let us know what you end up doing.

There's not much scope for getting the ICM to sit lower: I replaced the stock studs with home made ones, but it only gets you about ⅛" or so. Depending on the seat, you may be able to cut a bit of the base away to clear the ICM. Gospelman did that with the '72' seat (same as the '48' seat) that I gave him, to get it to fit on his '05.

If I was doing it, I'd modify the seat, or find a different seat, rather than try to relocate the ICM somewhere else.

Being that this thread is about relocation, that I what I want to do. I saw many different ways, just thought I could cut to the chase and see which was easiest??????

The base has a strip of plastic right across where the it interferes. I'm afraid cutting that would cut the integrity of the seat.

Relocation, yes!
My fender is rusty and needs replacement and want an un-hole-e fender. Plus have a spare Sundowner seat on hand.
My choice of smaller li-ion batteries has been out of stock, have not ordered the new fender yet so we can still consider other ideas..

I removed the module and this is how nice the seat fits. It is staying for sure. So it has to be moved.

Replacing the lead acid or even a new generation AGM type battery of equal size to the older lead acid type battery with lithium ion battery increases the available volume in the battery tray area for the ECM.
Thus, leaving the selection wide open for stationary cushion type seats without the unsightly tail seat section.
If the ECM is strapped to the outboard side of the battery , the lithium ion battery allows an additional 3/4" clearance to the battery cover.
The thickness of the ECM is 1-1/8", width=4", length=6-1/2" including connector.
With these dimensions, could find the ECM location combination that fits into the tray volume.
Surely, there are many combinations that fit and not only one unique solution.
Thanks a bunch.
Used your measurements to finally get to fix my '08 Roadster ECU relocate problem.
Ordered a Battery Tender BTL12A270CW, numbers, tech changes so fast.

Last time used the turbo toasted the ECU cover on the '10 48, need to relocate the ECU away from the rear exhaust port, back of the head.

You guys helped me solve 2 problems, yippee.
