Default If I Could Build My Perfect Roadster...

If I could build my perfect Roadster, I'd start with a new 2019 Roadster. I'd put a 4 1/2 gallon Superlow tank and rear fender on it, and the handlebars from an '05 XL1200R. The front fender would be from an XR1200 with an Extenda Fenda. The stock fender doesn’t offer enough coverage for rain. The bike would have the four piston front brake calipers and master cylinder from the XR, as well. I'd put either a Sundowner or a Mustang wide seat on it for comfort on long rides. It would have a detachable sissy bar/luggage rack as well as a detachable front windshield.

It would also have hard bags. I already have the modified Hepco Becker mounts so I could put them on it and use the Junior bags, but I have an itch to try the Givi Trekker plastic bags. I also think I'd like to put a crash bar with highway pegs on and one of those mesh headlight protectors.

It would be the ideal bike for me. I could ride it to the Arctic Ocean on the Dempster Highway, run at 80 MPH down the Interstate or lean through the turns on the Cherohala Skyway and be comfortable.

Oh; it would also have to be painted red. The same shade of red as my brother's Mazda.

I really like the new Roadster quite a bit, but I'd have to make those changes to make it right for the kind of riding I do.

Jed Clampett built an Adventure bike out of a newer Roadster, and it's close to what I want, but the differences between what he built and what I want are significant to me.

Anyway; what I'll probably have to do is first, buy the bike, then make the changes over time as I can afford them. It will happen; I just have to focus on the goal.

Sounds great. I recently tested a 1200 Roadster but found it not as comfy as my 883R.Not a fan of bobbed mudguards with the amount of rain we get in Blackpool!

You just described what I plan to do for my next rally bike. Will likely be a year or two down the road.

Unless I really like the Pan American when it comes out ...

Mine's about there, which is to say I'm pretty happy with how HD made it. Had to put on a good seat - mustang touring and get the bars up - 6.5" scrambler bars with 2.5" risor extensions. Stage 1 and some do-dads. My big wish would be a tank that looks just like stock but with 4 true gallons. A smidge wider! I just can't stand how the 4.5 tank looks, so boring. The one on the left is my wife's. Sure I wouldn't be upset if it weighted 50lbs less and put out 100 ponies. 1275cc's and cam may come in the future.

Touring suspension, batwing fairing. (no radio) Decent hard bags and touring seat. Lastly, Baker 6 speed.

Did you have to do anything for the cables, hoses, or wires?

Yes, had to replace brakeline and cables. Ordered through Magnum website. Found out too late that an adapter is available to connect new upper line on brakes. Pretty sure the upper Brake line is a +10, but I think the cables we're +6.
