Thumbs up Rode almost 500 miles one day.

Well I've been on vacation for the past two weeks and on Wednesday, August 8th, I went for a ride on the Sporty. I left my home and headed South to Carbondale Il. I have a cousin that lives down there who owns a Frozen Yogurt Shop, Cool Spoons on Giant City Rd. I stopped there to visit for a short bit and have a treat. Then while deciding on which way I'd proceed from there I went farther South. Now the road I took from Decatur on down is a bland two lane road in some places it's not a bad road to take, US Route 51, and the farther South you get turns out to be a scenic ride. I continued riding South till I got to I-57, jumped onto Southbound I-57 till I got down to Exit 1, Il Route 3. I headed back North along this route all the way back to the St Louis Metro area. Il Route 3 is pretty scenic along the river in several areas, and a great way tp see distant cliffs and outcroping to the East of this highway in Southern Il. Along my way back North I stopped for a moment at Thebe's Landing, along the Mississippi River, took a few pictures and then kept on riding.

Now to add to all this, my fuel stops along the way. I first off topped of the tank in Pana, then down in Carbondale, then made it all the way back up to Redbud, my last and final fuel stop before getting home was made in Stonington. granted the three fuel stops I was pushing it to the limit to go as far as I could on every tank of gasoline. Bike ran flawlessly for the whole day, even with being a 100 degree day, and really wasn't unpleasant while I was rolling down the road. Most of the two lane roads I kept at running 60 mph, since I was in no big hurry to go anywhere. All interstate riding I kept it around 70 mph. I averaged 50 mpg for the day, which is nothing to complain about. To add to this I did leave Decatur around noon, and by the time I got back home it was around 11:30 pm.
So by the time I made it to Redbud the sun was already setting to the West and when I reached the I-255 By-Pass the sun was already gone for the day. All in all my road trip was just wonderful, no rush, no set destination and no need to push myself. I plan on taking more road trips like this throughout this state to check out the sites all over and see that this was a bit of a test to see if I could handle being on the bike for an extended road trip, which I felt pretty good about completing. There's my road trip for one day.

X2 on the IL3. Parts of it just north of Chester are choppy, but the rest is pretty smooth. The g/f and I just rode down through Chester, then over to Murphysboro, Carbondale then came home on IL13. Tons of bikes out on the road. Nice weather, nice day, nice ride.

I agree 500 is a good fairly comfortable day. I think I did a couple of 650 mile days in the SE USA and I was feeling it. ... I'm def not 20 anymore, but I can still get a few miles in.

tried to look at your pics but got a "content not available"
