Default Upgrade Rear Rim to 18”

Looking to upgrade rear rim in my 97 Sportster 883. I wanted to put an 18” rear rim, what is the size rim and tire I would need to make this happen without any major modifications?

I don't know, but that would be a great mod. You could use grasshoppers and run the bike at speedway.

Hi,
I fitted my 2002 XL with 3,5"x18 rear and 2,5"x18 front rims. Tires are 140/70-18 and 100/90-18. This combination fits without any problems. Also has the 140/70-18 tire nearly the same diameter as the 130/90-16. So your speedo is still correct.
Greetings from Germany
Christoph

Hi Slick , I m also running 18" rear (and front ) got a 130/90 on the back and 110/80
front , Avon roadriders , added bonus of a good bit of weight loss , those 130s are heavy compared to an 18" !

Im in process of trying this on my 1998 883. I bought some parts off CL with the main item being a AMF era 18 inch rim. I mounted a new 4.50 x 18 Shinko Classic 270 on it, when I went to put it on the bike the axle fit perfect, but I need some different spacers to make it work.

The 4.50 is about the same as a 120mm, the stock 16in was running a 130mm so a bit smaller...in the few minuets I had it on there, the rear fender looks way too big. Not a big deal for me since I plan to hardtail and put trailer style rear fender, but something to think about if you are staying stock.

At the moment I am looking for info on it but little time to do so...work,work, work!

Good luck

Cotton1
