Original rear shocks have piggyback addition and they are adjustable. I have shorter 10 1/2" and they are progressive suspension but will bottom when with wife and u hit great hole . Take that motor and run it and keep it stock as long as possible , i changed alot of stuff but with this knowledge i wouldnt do it again. Stock sport model will give you small trouble . Just replace stock parts with dame new parts if necessary and youll be fine. It performs really good and gives alot for the buck . When you change one thing in engine you must do another too. Stock will.be reliable and fast with great mileage.

I have worn pinion shaft OIL PUMP GEAR, one guy said you shoud check your crank and redo it. Well bike is xl1200sport 1998. Can it be just wear on that gear through time and crank shaft is spreading ?? Tnx. Anyone can answer pls.
The oil pump drive gear is known to wear. A bronze replacement gear is available.
Here's Hammer Dan explaining why...
