Default 79 side cover/oil tank annoyance

Recently picked up a sweet '79 Ironhead. I really don't know what all has been done to it over the years, so this may not be a "stock" problem.

It's really starting to annoy me that I have to have a 1/2" socket and a 6" extension to remove the bottom bolt on the right side cover just to check the damned oil. Is there a better solution for this?

I welded a short 1/4 - 20 bolt in the hole with the threads facing outward.

Then use a wingnut to hold it on. Snug it with a leatherman if you want. (Optional: Rubber flap on hot starter relay post.)

Still somewhat awkward but better than the stock setup.

I seen some just get the oil temp gage aftermarket. And just cut a hole in the cover. Tight hole stopper with dip stick replacement. The setup has dip stick sticking just beyond the cover.
