Some of those are in the '06 parts manual (and some are '09).

The brake light switch dates back to 1951!

The 883 primary chain is a '-57' part. IIRC there are still a couple of other 1957 parts (minor ones, oil fittings, and such).

Personally, as an owner of a '97, '04, and '07, I believe the older style such as the '97 battery mount adds character to the machine. It only matters what you think and what you will or won't do about it, if anything.

I suppose you always want what you don't have...

It's one of those things that has been in the back of my mind since i got the bike, but am now at a place where i can start to think about how to get it done, if at all.

I used a smaller lithium battery and hacked up the stock battery box to fit it. It still sits parallel to the lines of the bike and probably sticks out about a half inch less and is shorter than the stock battery box.

You can see it here in post 37.

EDIT: I think the very best way to do what you want would be to have someone who knows what they are doing fab an aluminum oil tank/ battery box combo.

Your battery box looks great! i'd still like to try run it perpendicular to the seat, underneath it.

I've love to have a tank/battery combo fab'd up. I'm guessing I'd have to go with a much smaller battery and rewire some things... but it would look the best, for sure.
