Default Potato-potato

2007 883

As you know, this bike has an elaborate and heavy cross-over built into the exhaust system. Which mutes the Potato-Potato sound somewhat. IMO.

Has anyone blanked off the crossover system from the mufflers. Might give a sharper POP-POP----POP-POP sequence?

I think the bike would run OK, it has separate exhaust sniffers for front and back cylinders.

It's shown that you likely lose some mid range performance by deleting the crossover. I have the old "H" pipe crossover under the carb, so I've grown to love it, ugly as it is, especially because it helps exhaust flow.

You also should keep idle up on a Sportster, to keep the oiling system flowing well. Lowering idle to get the "potato" sound is not good on a Sportster. Get a Shovelhead BT for that low idle sound. With EFI, you might have to re-map to lower the idle speed if even possible.

When you eliminate the crossover you have drag pipes and all the issues that come with them. I'd keep the crossover. You can play with timing and mixture and screw up the idle if you really want the sound...

Well that's not the case, if you have muflers in. Drag pipes are just empty pipes...

EFI, right? don´t even try... or you will open a can of worms.

Make it sound "Good & Deep" with a good exhaust and be happy.

Ride On!

Don´t forget you can always upgrade her to 1275 with a Hammer Kit,
