Hong Kong. So how is the riding there? Are you able to ride into and around in China, or are there a lot of restrictions?

You are in a good place here for doing your own work on the bike. Even if you have little or no experience, there are a lot of folks here that will be glad to help you through anything you run into.

Wow. I'm pleasantly surprised by all the love from around the world! Amazing how a bike can bring the world a little closer.

Hong Kong is a small city, with lots of mountainous areas. There are a few nice scenic mountain / coastal routes around, however, being such a small city, these routes will be busy during weekends which attracts police. The laws on modified cars or bikes in HK is really lame. It basically forbids any types of modification. Most police will leave you alone but on popular routes in weekends, police will easily give tickets (if you're lucky) or tow it for government inspection (if you're unlucky) . So I mainly avoid the weekends.

Oh, and the summer (July and August) heat and humidity is often unbearable. But otherwise the rest of the year is good.

As for riding in China, you will need to apply for a driver's license there first before you can apply for a permit to drive in China. And the driving etiquette there is from another world. I wouldn't want to drive a car there, let alone a bike. lol. But it would definitely be an adventure to ride in China for sure.

DIY work on bikes in HK is a bit tricky, unless one is mega rich with a house and a garage. Most of us lives in apartments (including me hah). So I got myself a Craftsman rolling tool bag combo (item number CMST518103 for those interested) as my rolling garage. Every time I work on my bike, I gotta roll that bag and other tools to my bike. A bit of a hassle, but very worth it. So because of this, I believe most folks in HK will bring their bikes to a garage to fix and install parts, which is a bit of a shame. A part of the reason for me to get a Harley is to customise it myself. I am glad I live in the age of internet (youtube and forums) to learn from experienced riders and mechanics on how to work on my bike.

Wow. I just took a look at Abu Dhabi’s weather. You can probably fry an egg on the helmet after riding. Do you ride ur bike during the extreme heat? How do you cope?

Thankfully my road goes mostly through highways. And no more joy rides during summer, only commuting.

This is THE BEST Sportster Resource!

Take a minute and please put at least your state/country in the LOCATION FIELD of your profile so we can better help you when you need it - Your climate, temps & altitude can make a difference to suggested fixes... (the STATE FIELD does not show on posts so you need to use the LOCATION FIELD)...

CLICK HERE - then scroll down to 'Additional Information' and look for the field labeled 'LOCATION' - put your information in there - It will then show on each post you make... Look for this:

Post a PICTURE of your ride - whether building, modding or totally stock... Host the image on a photo website (but not photobucket.com), get the link with the "[IMG][/IMG] tags" included & paste that directly into your posting (If you don't have the "[IMG][/IMG] tags" included, then use the Image Insert icon along with the web address of the image)...

There are various sections to the XLForum - You can pick a section that is related to your problem/info, open that section and read the sticky threads on the first page - Then post your comment in an existing thread or create a new one to get information for your specific question... For new threads, make the title specific to your problem or info...

This is the index of sections: http://xlforum.net/forums/index.php
Be sure to read some/many of the FAQ/HowTo threads (including how-to post pictures) here:
http://xlforum.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=16

The XLForum Sportsterpedia has a lot of technical info to review:
http://sportsterpedia.com

Once you look around and see the value of this place, consider becoming a paying member:
