Ironhead Dellorto PHM38 Parts Sources - Intake Rubber, Throttle Cable

Hi all,

Does anybody have a source for the intake rubber from the old Harley Dellorto PHM kits? Mine is old and cracking, and I am told that the intake rubbers for Guzzis and Ducatis do not fit the Harley Dellorto manifold.



V-twin does sell PHM carb kits with intake rubbers, but they don't list the individual part number (and it looks like a piece of straight hose in the picture - which I have considered and then dismissed). I also see that they offer a "spigot adapter," 35-9076, which might clamp onto the PHM carb spigot and allow it to be bolted to a standard O-ring intake, but I am not sure if this is the case. I have emailed them, but I am not holding my breath for a helpful response. Maybe they will surprise me.



Also, does anybody have a part number for the appropriate throttle cable for this carb? I see various ones listed on V-twin, but they are mostly listed for dual-throat carbs...

FWIW the BMW R90S used a pair of those so that might be a possible line on various parts.

Thanks for the responses, guys. From what I can gather, it seems like the part was specific to the Harley kit. There is only one PHM rubber on the dellorto.co.uk site (the same one that is sold on ebay), and the little ribs on the inside are symmetrically placed, whereas they are offset on the Harley/Dellorto rubber. The ebay vendor assures me that it will not work.

I will see what I can find out about the BMW intake, but I'm starting to think that the V-twin "spigot adapter" might be the ticket.

I have a Del'Lorto PHM 38 carb on my '69 short chop.

I was told years ago by my local Indie that parts were no longer available for this carb. I mentioned that on this forum and was given a link for a possible parts source. I've never tried to order anything from these folks, so I can't vouch for them at all. I'm just passing along the info I received. This site seems to be "Ducati" focused, so it may not work for you.

If you scroll down on the page, they do have a clamp and rubber manifold shown "for some Del'Orto carbs". You have to select either PHF or PHM for the correct part. I have no idea if it will work for your bike, but I'm thinking it won't, since you say you've found a "straight hose" style and dismissed it.

When I bought my 38mm Pumper years ago, it came with a throttle cable already installed. But the paperwork I received, which includes a parts list for the carb itself, doesn't show any info for the throttle cable or the rubber manifold parts.

Thanks for that, YK. I did come across your pics when I was searching for anything about the PHM38. General PHM parts, as well as new carbs, are available. Motortechnic in Germany is using them on all of their new knuck and pan motors, actually, which is a good sign. It's just this pesky Harley/Dellorto rubber for their original O-ring intake that seems to be unavailable. I have been told the Malossi one in the link won't work.

But, I just found a pic of a PHM38 on ebay (from the one and only MachIV Motors), pulled from an ironhead, which seems to have the V-twin "spigot adapter" on it (or at least the inner half), so I'm pretty confident that it will work.
