if i change the air filter for the round black one that they fit on IRON and i take the catalst out of my exhausts will i need to retune

Probably not since it would still be a stock air cleaner, though a tune on a stock bike greatly improves the stock lean condition and certainly helps all around IMHO.

This is a good point - but the initial expense to be able to tune an EFI bike makes folks hesitant to do it... Unlike turning a few screws and maybe popping in a jet on a carb bike...

(Why is 'progress' always more complicated and expensive than tradition? )

Very true, but it is the first thing that should be done. An otherwise stock bike runs MUCH better with good mapping. And it's pretty much a necessity if you're going to do more.

But it's not chrome and doesn't add visible coolness or bragging rights...

People spend $500 on a sissy bar, $500 on saddle bags, etc.

EFI is a million times better and easier than carbs. The AFR can be better with $100 xied. I don't miss working on carbs a single bit, 99% of people have to pay to have their carbs worked on and/or improved.
