I'm considering Ray's alternator conversion and I'm wondering if his unit or even the V-Twin conversion will go in the reverse of this disassembly...That is, wiggle woogle wiggle the new alternator conversion unit in without removing the crankcase cover...

Once you get it out look into the hole to see why removing it is a bit tedious, and why the 5:00 o'clock position is needed. That is the generator idler gear that you can see in there.

Re-install, as they say, is the reverse steps of un-install

I have never removed the cam cover to get the generator off the motor.
Not sure removing the cover would make it any easier, especially considering the steps needed to just remove the cover.
