Default 99 Sportster Long Chop Build

Started my long chop build. 99 883 planning on 6-8 inches up and 5-6 out with a single down tube and slight goose neck . 16 over springer with 21 inch up front and 16 in the rear. This is how it sat before I started:

Started tearing into it Friday night after work:

Got it up on the table and started trying to get everything lined up and engine jig built and put in place:

After getting everything lined up, I didn't like the way the hard tail hooked up. Looked like an afterthought and didn't flow at all so looks like I'm pretty much gonna be building most all of the frame around the cradle:

Have a lot of cleanup to do now trying to salvage stock components to use as needed. since I have everything locked in place, I'm gonna try to get the neck moved and in place this week to get the front shored up before re doing the rear

Nice! This project is similar to my bike project. But here in Sweden you need a fork that is atleast 20" over to call it long ;-) keep on work and post alot of pictures. Cool work!!

Yeah, I was thinking really hard about going 18 over but I wanted to keep SOME handling characteristics! Love the look of the Swedish long bikes

Twenty inches over? They did that here in the seventies a lot. Don't see them so much anymore. Man..even sixteen is a long front end if it is a daily rider.

My frame builder and springer builder worked this bike I am finishing up for me and it came to a ten inch over springer. After riding a stubby stocker even this bike with it's stretched frame seems real long. I was assured that this setup would handle almost like stock. I will soon know.

Good luck!
