I magnified the pic, I see nothing wrong, little bugger on the end of snap ring but in correctly and fine, when installing seal the tricky part is to install seal and screws loose, install sprocket, then snug a couple of the screws on the seal retainer, small needle nose pliers work for this, remove sprocket and blue locktite each of the screws one at a time. reinstall sprocket, bead of silicone around spline and sprocket, install sprocket nut keeper and nut, put bike in gear, hold brake and tighten nut, fold ear on keeper to hold and finish assembly.

so as of now. I had ran the bike in gear to se if the oil was flowing from the hole. and it was. I cleaned the area. installed gasket, and retainer. put some sealant on the sprocket splines and installed it. I'm going to give it 24 hours to set..and give her a rin tomorrow to see how she does.

I will try this method if how I tried today doesn't hold.

I have an 83 Ironhead that would leak like a pig every time I would ride it. I looked everywhere on that bike and could never find out where it was leaking from. Then I believe I read on one of the threads in this forum about the oil tank having cracks on the brackets for the battery holder welded onto the oil tank. Sure enough I found two large cracks right on the welds. I repaired the welds on the oil tank and then I welded the battery holder to the frame itself. My bike is pretty much oil leak free now, maybe one drop per month. Hope this helps

FYI, thanks everyone for the input. I used a sealant on the shaft splines and regasketed the oil seal and it seems to be holding well. this xl forum is great
