There's a big thread in the stickies about Ultima mapping-

http://xlforum.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1757704

Are you buying a cable to program your ignition when it shows up?

I read that, but he didn't mention what kind of setup he was running which i thought would be important to mention for reference! He mentions that not all setups are the same as would be his but not touching on that we have no real reference to start with. I suppose specific to his setup using a Voes suggesting later 70's into the 80's evo. Mine being a 74 xlch kick start will use zero dead rev's. I did get a VOES in case it's needed but that requires drilling into my SS E manifold.

I drilled mine. The first part was to find the thickest part of the manifold to install which would also be a convenient location. I was going to use the marked spot on the back but decided against it...

Try to get one of these, a vented cap screw, a somewhat common automotive part...

Did you find that the VOES was very beneficial and necessary?! I hope this one is the correct one if so! What size drill and tap?!

It needs only a tiny tiny hole in whatever part you insert. If you can get one of those vented screws from an auto supply that would be easiest. Just get the smallest one they have and drill and tap to fit the screw threads.

When you decide on the spot to use ensure that it will not interfere with the mounting arrangement

The engine performs better with the VOES. I was using Wiseco 10:1 pistons and had to work at eliminating the pinging. The VOES was a help. I just trust the overall performance was better. Hard to judge. All that f@cking racket from the engine

I do not know the terminology "stick map". With the Ultima for a street bike, just install, set static timing and go.
