Default can you tell me why?

can the many people that insist upon replying to the previous post with that person's post in a quote tell me why they think that is necessary.if your post immediately follows that persons post the conversation just continues on.if your post refers to a post earlier in a thread using a quote provides continuity with that persons post.

You are dangerously close to being labeled a grammar nazi.

There's often multiple questions or points being made in the previous post and quoting that comment helps to keep the reply on point (but that presumes that the responder actually EDITS the quote down to the right point).

Also, sometimes multiple people are replying at the same time and the reply comment does not end up being the very next post.

I agree, that quoting a long post with no editing for clarity is extraneous and irritating.

This is the same thing as hitting the "reply all" button.

It's human nature to take the easy path.

And a good percentage of the time it is a "Me Too" post!

That's my thinking also.
See if I hadn't used the quote, no one would know who I was agreeing with.
But time and time again, I type slow and by the time I have a thought written, someone comes ahead of me and breaks the conversation flow.
Actually I think while creating the post which slows down the time to post it.

The quotes string the conversation back together.
Agree with IXL2Relax on long post quotes.
It's helpful for everyone else to remove the information you are not actually replying to.

Ironmick's idea of writing the post on Word, Notepad etc is helpful also.

The only thing that kills me is including all the pics from a post in a quote, especially when there are lots of pics.

It is important to understand the later generators were 13 AMP, not 10.
